A Kindness Collaboration – An LISD Angel Tree Story

Kindness knows no boundaries. Or so you would surmise from the teamwork of an unlikely alliance of avid golfers, elite gymnasts, and high school student leaders, all pulling together for a greater community good represented in the 16th Annual Lewisville ISD Angel Tree project. 

The Lewisville ISD Angel Tree, is a gift donation campaign created to provide a wonderful holiday experience for less fortunate children – newborns through 19-year-olds – across district schools. It is organized by the Lewisville High School Student Council under the direction of LHS Student Activities Director Allison Stamey. The adoption list this year topped 1,300 children chosen by school counselors and social workers.

Ms. Stamey said, “Knowing that each student on the LISD Angel Tree will have gifts during the holiday season does my heart good! So does watching my Student Council officers put their life on hold for so long because they want to make others happy. I’m so proud of them!”

And for the third year, Loving Community, a Lewisville faith based non-profit organization has helped to champion this wonderful project by networking together individuals and organizations who have a heart for helping children and families.

Lee Tanner represents such a group of Coppell based golfers who annually raise money through events such as Golfing for Kids and the Coppell Charity Cup. Their generosity and the monies they raise goes toward purchasing gifts for Angel Tree families. Also, they help fund other kid’s mentoring initiatives in LISD thorough out the year such as Grow Girls Groups, Boys2Men, and Men of Distinction.

Another partnering organization is the Elite Learning Academy associated with Texas Dream Gymnastics. The school’s founder and director Shannon Gunn knows the value of not only elite level gymnastics training and academic achievement, but also modeling for their young gymnasts the qualities of kindness and goodness by giving back to others. For the past three years the students and parents shop for gifts on the angel tree. 

Yes, in this season of giving, kindness knows no boundaries! We are grateful for the golfers, the gymnasts, and the good work of the Lewisville High School Student Council, who again this year have helped organize and model for our community, and those less fortunate that it is truly better to give than receive!
