The Loving Reading Initiative had its origins in the fall of 2014. It was initially developed as a partnership between Loving Community volunteers and Rockbrook Elementary School staff. The primary goal was pretty simple. To support and help children read better!

Volunteers who serve as readers and listeners benefit by giving of themselves and their time. They do NOT need to be specially trained as an educator. Most adults and high school students can easily provide reading help at the elementary school level.

“THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ACTIVITY
for building knowledge for
their eventual success in reading
is reading aloud to children”.

- Becoming a Nation of Readers.

Many children lack adequate attention and time with adults to provide encouragement and a listening ear. Studies show that children learn better and develop key life skills more readily when they have caring adult role models investing in their lives.
